As promised...

I had some technical difficulties during the past couple of days that prevented me from getting this posted earlier like I promised, but better late than never! Without further ado -

Enter now to win a $100 McFarland Designs gift certificate to celebrate the launch of my new website!!!

Here's how to enter - check out the new site, then leave a comment here on the blog - feedback on the site itself is appreciated, or you can let me know something you like (or don't like) about any of my designs, or make a suggestion for a new design you'd like to see me create.

If you want to enter more than once, you can post about my giveaway and/or my new website on your own website, blog, or on Facebook, Twitter, etc. To register your additional entry, just post another comment with a link to the blog post (or Facebook post, tweet, etc.). You can enter up to five times, provided that each entry after the first includes a link to a legitimate post promoting my work or this contest. (Please, only one post per site, ie, one Facebook post, one Twitter, one blog post, etc.)

A winner will be drawn at random on June 15th. Good luck!

UPDATE - June 4th:
You can register additional entries (still with a maximum of five) by becoming my friend on Facebook or following me on Twitter. After you've done so, come back here and leave additional comments letting me know.

UPDATE - June 15th:
And the winner is... Gabriel J.!!! Congratulations Gabriel, and thanks everyone for participating. I got some great feedback and met some nice new people. This contest is now closed but check back for another in perhaps a couple of months.

I love the site. But it's kind of odd that when you click on an item it opens in a new page.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

Commentary!

Now, I have dialup, so all site performance issues here are coming from someone on 46.6 kbps on a good day. But I'm not the only one, so maybe it's still useful?

First, I can't really use Flickr, because of load time, so your Flickr gallery doesn't do me much good. Your Etsy link is the one I went to, and I was very glad to see it. If I was going to buy a ring on impulse, I'd get it from the Etsy shop for sure; I can't quite figure out HOW to buy from your new site. Is it just for contacting you and having discussions? If your Etsy site is going to be the ordering site, maybe have a link to it directly on the front page, or a "shop" header.

I like your profile info--part of the reason I buy handmade is the very sort of ethical issues you address, and I do think it's worth a premium to know that my goodies are doing the least harm. Good info!

I love seeing the Fordite in your work- that stuff is so cool!

Great giveaway, too-- hope you get a lot of attention!

I love those solitaire type of rings you make, they are gorgeous! :)

I agree with carapace - there is a lot of really great info on the site - about the world of ethical jewelry making, vegan life etc.. and you can't beat good eats! i really like that it is educational but also sort of a "slice of life". it makes the idea of wearing a special piece of jewelry have all that much more meaning.

incidently... posted about you over on facebook but my profile is private, so only friends can see. hope it gets you traffic none the less!

I honestly think you make some awesome jewelry and the design of the site looks awesome. Really easy to navigate as far as finding stuff, but I'm not a fan of the pop-up window when you click on different jewelry. Have it come up on the same window, or if at least have it open a new tab. Other than that, it's reeks of awesomeness!!

Links opening up in new windows is *definitely* a good thing. As far as photos of previous work, I'm glad that you've got links to such generous assortments of work...but it's a little overwhelming. I know that this could be a lot of work, but would it be possible to have a small assortment of items viewable directly on the site, preferably broken down into categories?

First your site: It's easy to navigate, everything clearly marked. Simple and elegant which is a reflection of your designs. Great Job!

Second your Jewelry: I love all your designs, and the fact that you use recycled silver. It really adds to the uniqueness of your jewelry. I love the classic lines, these will definitely never go out of style, added with the slight raw look of handmade, they're gorgeous.

If I got to pick something from your jewelry, I would definitley go for the Mossianite rings. The sparkle and simplicity *sigh* I just can't get over them :) You do a great job :)

I am so impressed with the beauty of your jewelry. The Fair Trade stones and recycled metal is something I have not seen before. I hope more jewelry makers will follow suit. Also your philantropic efforts that are tied into the sales of your work is so admirable. Kuddos to you and the high ethical standards you have incorporated into your art and business.

I think it would look nice to use more photos on your site. Your designs are gorgeous, and I think they don't get enough press. On the first page, I would make that static image a rotating image of a variety of designs, maybe 7-10 images to fade in and out, that way, just on the first page, you have multiple samples up to wow people with. Like on this page (http://www.stuartbenjamin.com/featured-jewelry-designers.html), soo how the images rotate. Something like that would promote your work well.
<3

btw I love your designs!!! *fingers crossed*

Tamara,
I think your site is easy to navigate. I explored your Etsy site and was impressed with the photos. My husband and I had custom rings designed for our engagement and wedding rings using recycled gold and stones in a style very similar to yours, so all of your work naturally appeals to me.
The about me page is very interesting as you describe your philosophy and take the time to explain lab-made stones. You have me convinced that you are doing everything right!
The one suggestion I have that would improve your site is for you to also tell the story of how you learned your art. The woman who designed our rings was apprentice to a very old jewelry maker and inherited his business when he was too old to work any longer. When people are spending the kind of money they do on wedding sets, I would think knowing about your education would be important as well.
That being said, I still hope I win the $100 gift certificate.
Warm Regards,
Cherie at studiocherie dot com

Hi Tamara! I love that you're so passionate... your heart is so kind. Immediately fell in love with Bruno of course, what a love!

Great site, very clean & easy to navigate. If anything needs tweaking, it got past me. I wouldn't change a thing.

Funny thing, I was in a jewelry store today (chain that shall remain nameless, starts with a J) & was looking at their citrine rings. Didn't hold a candle to yours. "Magical" is a perfect description.

I'm a water lover, so aqua chalcedony speaks loudly to me. But my fav is the little citrine ring. The way you layered the band really sets off the stone. My eye is scrutinizing it because of my close encounter with a one today that paled in comparison.

Gorgeous, gorgeous work. Not just your jewelry. Your life too.

Hi Tamara! Congratulations on your new website & on growing your business! As a loyal customer and long-time admirer of your work & work ethics, it's so nice to see all the love you've been getting on this blog :)

I love the front page image (cluster of gorgeous rings on wood), but I agree with Abigail, and I feel like your creative versatility & breadth of work could be really shown off with more photos on the homepage. If you don't like her idea of rotating a single image, I wanted to suggest that you consider keeping the current photo, and adding a band of 4-6 images along the top that would fade in & out & randomly rotate.

Also, this may involve too much work, but for those custom-order customers who are budget-conscious, would you consider having Flickr subsets by price ranges?

Thanks so much again for all that you are and for all that you do! You are an inspiration. Plus, your jewelry ROCKS!

Best wishes,
Ellie L. from Los Angeles

The new site and your designs are beautiful.

My big suggestion is that you could think about organizing some of the decisions people need to make when thinking about engagement, wedding, and other commitment rings. As someone who didn't know anything about rings until I really got into this looking-for-an-ethical ring thing a few months ago, I had no idea how many different choices needed to be made and was a bit overwhelmed at first (far before I ever stumbled across your lovely designs).

A page on your site that talked about issues and options with metal type (sterling, gold, colors of gold, pricing, the downsides and upsides of each), width of rings, ring sizing (how to go get sized or how to size yourself), and different general designs you've done (plain band, multi-metal band, 1 gem in the middle, 1 gem off-center, 1 gem surrounded by 2 other gems where the 2 are flat in the band, 3 gems all popped out with a skinnier band, etc.) could be helpful for newbies. You've done this with your gem options on your new site and I found that really helpful (especially since I could go check out more about the suppliers), but I had to go to other websites (or ask you over email) for some other information.

That's my big suggestion. It looks great though, and I'll be recommending you to any of my friends if they ever decide to get engaged ;)

Unfortunately, my bf will never buy online, so I'm left to my own devices :( Would love to win the $100 and make a purchase!

Entry #3 -- added a note about your site on FB. Hope this works -- http://www.facebook.com/note.php?saved&&suggest&note_id=95184031989#/note.php?note_id=95184031989 (I don't know why it's so long).

I also wanted to add that I agree with the person who suggested you put more photos of your work up on the website. When I am at work, I can't view Flickr at all, so your website is strangely lacking in visual examples for me. Otherwise, I love the site!

With just one look at your site, I am very interested and impressed... you are a caring person, a charming lady and a talented artist!

Thanks for the great site, your brightness and that of your jewelry also, shines through!!

I love your jewelry. But the one thing about the site that I noticed was that when you clicked on the jewelry, and went to the next page, no prices were shown.

I know for me that's a problem, because once I've decided that I like something, the next thing I want to do is check the price, to see if I like it that much. LOL

Thanks for the chance to win!

There is so much to love - I adore that you use fairly-traded stones and recycled metal, and you truly have an amazing eye for unique and exciting colors. I adore the Sterling silver & aqua chalcedony necklace.

Wow, I'm a little discouraged by how many people have entered this contest, but I wanted to comment anyway! (and besides, you deserve the attention, so I can't begrudge you that :-) )

I found you on Etsy, browsing for a ring for my girlfriend. I knew immediately that when the time comes for us to tie the knot, I will be coming to you for the rings. Simple and beautiful designs only made more amazing by the lack of cruelty to both the earth and our fellow humankind.

However! Yet a bigger surprise awaited me, for when I saw your new site and read that you support marriage equality, I almost cried. We have been bloodied by the recent events, but we aren't giving up. I am deeply grateful to everyone out there who supports our love, and I choose to support them in return.

Thank you so much for your love and support, and your beautiful, ethical work. I hope to see you soon.

I like the product but the website itself is a bit cumbersome. When I open too many windows they go into a stacking tray and it's inconvenient.

Great website, it has a very clean and crisp feel to it.

The pale pink elliptical shaped tourmaline ring was my fave in your gallery--as far as the site design, it looks quite nice--my only suggestion (and it's a small one) is that clicking on the pictures on your home page would take you to the gallery, and that the gallery page wouldn't move but instead be a collection of thumbnails since the home page gallery moves. But neither of these detracted from the site for me.

Oh I also tweeted your giveaway--you can see it on my page at http://twitter.com/purrprints

You did a great job on your new site. I like the look and ease of viewing your beautiful work.
I have my eye on your gorgeous green tourmaline ring.
I was also pleased to see that you give a percentage of your sales to Safe Passage. I love it when artists give back.
Thank you for the great chance.

The first place I went was the gallery, but the slideshow timing seemed off. Sometimes it would allow a few seconds to look at the piece and sometimes it would jump very quickly to the next piece. I'm using Firefox, so I don't know if that's why it acts that way.

Next I went to your Etsy page and looked at all the goodies. I'm not much for rings, but I love the Luscious California Pink Tourmaline Pendant, Recycled Sterling Silver.

Your jewelry designs are exquisite! Your new website is fantastic. Visually, it is simple, elegant, classy, and very easy to read and navigate around. All the links are working, it is not cluttered with any useless information and I enjoyed visiting there very much! My favorite item at your Etsy Shop is the Fordite and Recycled Sterling Silver Ring, Size 6.25, it is so unique and very chic in design. I love the idea of wearing recycled silver, when I can support who utilized recycled materials and fair trade stones and embellishments I am always pleased to do so. Thanks so much for the chance to enter.

Your new website is nice, but the thing I would change is the link navigation at the bottom. Basic blue links doesn't fit to the style, so they could be more elegant, like rest of the site!
