I soldered!

Yesterday was the first day of my jewelry fabrication class, and I already learned to solder! I am so excited... I've been wanting to learn this for so long. Here is a picture of me with fire, plus my finished soldered piece. It's just two pieces of scrap copper, but I'm going to keep it forever! Next Saturday I should actually get to make a sterling silver bezel setting for a stone pendant, and after that I'm going to do a ring! Can you tell I'm excited?

For anyone in Humboldt County (CA), you have to check out Unauthorized Art - it is the amazing new facility in Arcata where I am taking this class.

Girls that solder are just a baby step away from girls that weld and both of those things make me hot!

For any of you who may be concerned that I have a perverted blog stalker, fear not - that's my husband posting anonymously. :-)

I'm so glad to hear who it is. I was a little concerned, and remembered previous comments that made me wonder...I should have known. He would like the welding thing.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you make with your newly-learned skills. Keep on soldering on ;-)

Oh, you're so hooked! Your work looks great! I've never used a little torch like the one you're using. How did you like it? I have a big Acetylene torch but it's way too big for any workspace I could hope to obtain, so I'm interested in getting a smaller one so as to actually get stuff done!

robin marie, so far the little cheapo torch works fine. They only cost $10 so that's a plus. I would imagine if you're doing any volume of work that it would be better to get something bigger/better but for now these work fine for me. :-)
