May Jewelry for Charity Recap & June Kick-Off

Thanks for another great month! With your help, I raised $432 during the month of May for Vegan Outreach, bringing my total donations to $4,778. Vegan Outreach reaches so many people with their message of kindness and compassion; it is truly an honor to be able to assist their efforts.

June's charity is WINGS Guatemala. This is the second time I've featured this awesome organization, which I suppose tells you something about how much I admire them! I'd like to tell you a bit about what they do.

WINGS is a US-registered, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Antigua, Guatemala. It provides educational talks and information, financial resources, and access to reproductive health services for low-income, rural and/or indigenous Guatemalans, giving them the opportunity to make informed choices about their reproductive health and quality of life.

Here are a few of the programs WINGS administers -
  • Family Planning Initiative - The need for quality family planning services in Guatemala is great. Nearly a third of women report having an unmet need for birth control. { read more }

  • Youth WINGS - WINGS trains Youth Educators aged 14-19 to provide quality sexual and reproductive health information and family planning referrals to their peers, allowing them to make informed decisions about their future, prevent unwanted pregnancies, and guard against Sexually Transmitted Infections. { read more }
  • Cervical Cancer Screening - In many countries, the incidence of cervical cancer is kept low by regular screening. In Guatemala, which lacks an effective countrywide screening program, cervical cancer is responsible for 60% of female cancer cases attended by the INCAP Cancer Institute in Guatemala City. { read more }
So remember, 5% of anything you spend in either my bead shop or my jewelry shop during the month of June will go directly towards these efforts. Thanks for helping me help others!
