Cally update

Thanks to everyone who wrote to wish Cally well with her recovery! You are all too sweet. She is at the vet now getting stitched up; we'll be headed out to pick her up in an hour or two. The vet said it was good that we brought her in because it would have gotten maggots, especially during this time of year. Yuck! He gave me the option of treating it with antibiotic ointment or having him sew it up, and I decided the stitches sounded like more of a sure solution so we went with that. I would have felt bad smearing ointment into her open sore several times a day (sounds painful), plus I was worried about her picking at it or one of the other chickens pecking it or something - I think this will hopefully be a more comfortable solution.

Poor Cally! I hope she feels much better very soon and heals up in no time. I know she must appreciate you taking such good care of her.

We're so glad to hear that Cally is going to be just fine and is getting some medical intervention.

Also, thanks for the names - Cally, Abby and myself FINALLY get to have animals named after us! We're pretty happy the animals happen to be the best peeper chickens in the world.

(Of course, Abby and I were wondering why our namesakes weren't being shown off in photographs!)

Again, thanks for taking the girls and providing them with a wonderful, loving home.

Very happy to hear Cally is going to be A-OK :)

Good idea about the stitches, that's a safer bet to keep her wound protected and clean.
